Weddings
We are delighted to receive enquiries about getting married at Southwark Cathedral.
The Cathedral, like any Anglican parish church, is required to observe certain legal rules when it comes to marriages and we are happy to discuss these with you.
Those who live in the Cathedral parish are entitled to be married here as are people whose names are on the Cathedral Electoral Roll. Check which parish you live in by visiting the website A Church Near You
We are happy to support the application of someone who might have been a member of one of the Cathedral choirs as a youngster or someone who worshipped here regularly while they were a pupil at the Cathedral's schools.
The Sub Dean will be happy to meet you to discuss your request under the guidelines from the House of Bishops. The qualifying connections for marriage that are applicable to most parish churches do not apply to Cathedrals.
The Cathedral clergy are here to help and guide you through whatever process is most appropriate as you prepare for your special day and marriage.
Enquiries are welcome from people wishing to discuss the possibility of a service of thanksgiving following a civil marriage or the celebration of an anniversary. For more information about marriage in the Church of England, visit the Your Church Wedding website.
To enquire further about getting married at the Cathedral, please contact the Sub Dean by email or telephone 020 7367 6706.
Banns of Marriage
If you live in the Cathedral parish and are getting married in another church you will need to have your Banns of Marriage read at Southwark. Please contact the Canon Pastor's Assistant by email or telephone 020 7367 6700.
Civil Partnerships
Southwark Cathedral is an inclusive community where LGBTi+ people are welcomed and affirmed. The clergy would be delighted to help you to prepare prayerfully for your Civil Partnership. Please contact the Sub Dean by email or telephone 020 7367 6706 for further details.
Funeral and Memorial Services
Funeral services are celebrated at the Cathedral for people who live in the Cathedral parish or who are regular worshippers here.
The cremated remains of people who have had a strong personal link with the Cathedral may be buried in the Cathedral Churchyard.
