Our first folk night was a great success!

Martin Carthy by candlelight was the first major folk event in Southwark Cathedral & was a beautiful evening. On Friday 22 February, the master guitarist & folk singer performed songs from the tradition of the British Isles in the nave of the oldest gothic building in London to a sold-out crowd.  

Hearing songs that would have been sung in the streets & homes around the Cathedral hundreds of years ago echoing through the space brought intangible history within a hair's breadth of touch.

A living tradition performed by one of this country's finest musicians in a building with over a thousand years of tradition and continuous service.
