ClimateStrike 15 March 2019
On Friday 15 March, Southwark Cathedral will ring a bell across the lunch hour in support of the #FridaysForFuture campaign, lead by our young people, to demand government action on climate change.
A Cathedral bell will ring to show solidarity with the young people of Britain and anyone who is campaigning for climate policies in line with the Paris Agreement. This is especially pertinent as students walking out of school on a #ClimateStrike to call on governments to keep warming below the unacceptably dangerous level of 1.5 degrees Celsius and protect our future. See this video from Greta Thunberg, the 15-year old Swedish student who sparked the movement -- and then join the strike!
In February, the Church of England General Synod voted to step up its environmental programme in response to the escalating threat of Climate Change, by an overwhelming majority.
The Cathedral highlights the 15 March Day of Action and calls on all people to protect God's creation for future generations.
