At the heart of William Shakespeare’s theatrical world was the building we now know as Southwark Cathedral

This was the scene of baptisms, burials and marriages for the actors who graced the stage of Elizabethan theatre.

Our walk begins at Southwark Cathedral to view Shakespeare’s memorial and the ledger stone marking the burial in 1607 of William's actor brother Edmond. The tour explores Bankside, wandering the riverside streets trod by Shakespeare, locating the sites of the original Globe and Rose theatres and witnessing the crowds enjoying the replica Globe theatre.

This informative and fascinating tour starts in Southwark Cathedral's Millennium Courtyard, Montague Close, SE1 and last between one and a half to two hours.
